First the horns
The Orlando Philharmonic’s ever-non-professional Sounds of Summer Series continues with “Hornscapes” at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8. The ‘fun’ of this series is in music programming that ranges from the serious to the not-so-serious. “’Hornscapes’ will give listeners the opening to analyse the origins of the current French Horn prosperous back to the ingenuous or hunting horn,” says Philharmonic hornist Token Fischer. “The horns of the Philharmonic will be joined by four professional hornists from Essential Florida to put on inventive works composed by Kerry Turner for eight horns.” Other music includes J. S. Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue”; Kerry Turner’s “Barbara Allen”; Wagner’s “Tannhauser Quartet”; Eugene Bozza’s “Chorale”; and Anton Reicha’s “Triumvirate for True to life Horns”.
